Youtube at its worst is a place for endless streams of comments and content, and at its best one of the strongest, diverse, and most interesting platforms for ideas and movements in the world of today. We have seen revolutions, discoveries, and meteoric rises to fame on the platform.
Most recently, Tegan and Sara, a duo representing and fighting for the LGBTQ, have come out with a new video making waves both in and out of its respective communities. The Tegan and Sara video of their song, “Faint of Heart” brought many together to provide a positive experience and exciting moment for the LGBTQ community, with the music video being shot one day after the tragic mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub.
The video itself is a beacon of positivity in the face of one of the greatest tragedies in recent history. Sara and Tegan evoke the spirits of many top music performers in history, bringing in many young LGBTQ artists for lip syncing artists like Prince and Madonna, as well as David Bowie. This outline led to a very successful and increasingly viral music video with a powerful and positive undertone in the face of an American tragedy.
Sara and Tegan continue to fight the good fight with their music and videos and have allowed for names like Tyler Ford to receive more (deserved) attention while shining the light on the strength of the LGBTQ movement as a whole.
